The Time the Tour-De-Bcycle Was Live Tweeted

The life of a social media content creator can be somewhat challenging. Most of the time you are isolated, doing work from your bed in sweat pants that say “Brat Fest” on the butt. You’re forced to be your own critic, and you go a little crazy. You definitely start to think you are funnier than you actually are. Sometimes the words hit you, and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes you get this crazy burst of inspiration for what to say and how to capture an audience, and it will be while you are out to dinner at Culvers. And you are scribbling on ketchup-stained newspapers like a mad person. And other times, you are totally blank. Lost on anything witty or creative to say. And then there are the days when two amazing souls send you the ultimate content – freeing you from the dreaded writers block that has plagued you for the last three days.

can we be best friends?

Over the weekend, another Tour-De-Bcycle was completed. And the two champions live-tweeted the entire experience. And it is my pleasure to present to you their account. Tweets, photos, hashtags and all. Congrats Laura and Brint. And thanks for the awesome piece. My blog post on one day becoming a biking cat lady was going nowhere quick…

The B-Ionic Man

20130608_101653For the past 24 years, Trek Bicycle Corporation and the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer) have been teaming together for the Trek 100 Ride For Hope. The Trek 100 has contributed over $11 million dollars to pediatric cancer research, and we imagine that fund grew substantially after the 2013 ride held this last Saturday in Waterloo.

Each rider was asked to raise $2/mile for two times the number of miles they pledged to ride, with the longest possible mileage being 100 – the grand Century. As if riding 100 miles on a bike wasn’t enough, our long time friend at B-Cycle National HQ – Brian Conger – decided it would be best to ride on a B-cycle. Because some people are awesome, and some people are real life bionic men (B-ionic…if you will).

20130608_143259

Most riders first question upon hearing Brian would be riding his century on a B-cycle was “Why?” But in true super human form, Brian simply asked “Why not?” If you think about it, the logic is quite simple. Big, plushy seat. A basket that allowed for the perfect aero position and top speeds. Plenty of room inside said basket for his cell phone (in which he used to make not one, but TWO conference calls while riding…can you say BOSS? But literally. Pun intended).

Brian100ride

Forget fancy clip-ins and padded shorts. Brian rode his century in what looked like khaki golf shorts and Reeboks. It’s not the first time we’ve talked about B-cycles being magic bikes or stated that anything is possible on a B-cycle. But now Brian has actually proven that. This is factual now. ANYTHING is possible on a B-cycle. Had Brian done any modifications to the B-cycle, it probably would have flown (similar to the the ending scene from Grease where the car suddenly flies…). Maybe next year Brian…maybe next year.

20130608_143301

So huge thanks to Trek for this amazing event and to the MACC fund for all their support. And a huge round of applause to the B-ionic Man Brian for his heroic efforts and logic-defying physical capabilities. In the spirit of always striving for bigger and better, we’d like to propose a challenge for next year Brian, since super-humans like you always need new goals…

The Century…on the Trike?

Ride The Drive

btb5This past Sunday, Madison B-cycle took to the streets of downtown for the annual Ride The Drive. John Nolen Drive (amongst other streets) were closed to cars so bikes, roller blades, and strollers could rule the streets. B-Team was ready to rumble real early to set up the tent, arrange the coveted B-cycle sunglasses, and assemble the temporary station for bike check-in and check-out. Windy conditions threatened the existence of the B-cycle tent, but after some creative bungee-cording, the station was ready to go!

20130602_110155

20130602_095102Last year we saw a lot of success with our dueling B-cycle mounts, but we upped our game this year with B-cycle basket toss and the ever popular Smoothie Bike. Thanks to our friends at Saris, we were able to have a full on smoothie bar at Ride The Drive – a bike-powered smoothie bar. The “Blender Bike” was a huge hit with young and old riders alike, and I think it is safe to say you will be seeing it at future events.

crushin’ ice and takin’ names.

Ride it like you stole it.

Ride it like you stole it.

The temperature rose progressively throughout the day and by 1 PM the sun was shining and everyone was smiling. Well..most of us anyway.

Huge thanks to all those who came out to Ride The Drive and participated in all our fun and games. We are so grateful to be a part of this bike-loving community and can’t wait for next year!

B-Basket Toss!

The Trike came to the rescue half way through the ride – coffee and bagels in tow!

Brats and Bikes.

So. There is this not-so-famous song by the not-so-talented Ke$ha. But hey, we love to hate her, hate to love her. Today is one of those days where ya just love her. The holiday weekend is upon us and party music is in the air – as well as the smell of brats. We couldn’t help but take a little creative liberty and re-work Ke$ha’s not-so-classic “Boots and Boys” as an expression of our deep excitement to be a part of the annual Johnsonville Brat Fest. We’ve re-written the lyrics below to be more our style. We present to you “Brats and Bikes.” Music video to follow? Maybe. Just maybe.

20130524_184936Brats and Bikes

Brats and bikes. Oh.

I think it’s time that I mention
I’ve got myself an obsession
For the smell, for the touch
For that mustard-covered stuff.

I know I’ve got myself a habit
But I gotta bike now.
To the Brat Fest, right in town
Let me break it down.

20130524_184844I check it out, and I ride off.
So see what I got?
I got brats and bikes.
I can fit so many on my trike.
I gotta say it.
I eat my brat so pretty as I ride my bike in the city.
Watch out, brats and bikes.

Give me brats and bikes.

Give me brats and bikes.

Bikes.

20130524_184858I’ll buy quite the collection.
For the excellent condiment section.
Johnsonville brats, big red bikes.
Oh, don’t forget the trike.
My basket holds brats like a champ.
All along the bike path.
Check it out, ride it ’round.
Oh, lookie what I found (a special brat fest station!)
Brats and bikes!
I can fit so many on my trike.
I gotta say it, I eat my brat so pretty as I ride my bike in the city.
Watch out, brats and bikes.

20130524_184908Give me brats and bikes.

(Crazy for you, crazy for you)

Give me brats and bikes.

(I’m crazy for you, you yummy brat you)

Give me brats and bikes.

(Crazy for the trike)

Give me brats and bikes, oh, oh.

Long story short – ride a B-cycle to Brat Fest. Grab your gang and go. The $5 access fee is waived all weekend and 30 minute trips are free, per usual. It’s basically free to ride all weekend. So get your brat and bike on. B-Team will be waiting for you with swag and smiles. And send us all your best Brat and Bike photos – @Madison_Bcycle
